Primary responsibilities of the Surgical Technician include:
- Prepare and\nset up surgical instrumentation and equipment according to department standards\nand surgeon preference cards.
- Maintain a\nsterile field and ensure all surgical instruments and supplies are ready and\nfunctioning properly.
- Anticipate the\nneeds of the surgical team during procedures, providing instruments and\nsupplies promptly.
- Perform hand\nand arm scrubs in accordance with departmental policies, donning sterile gown\nand gloves, and setting up instrumentation and equipment as per guidelines.
- Conduct\nsurgical counts with the circulating nurse at designated intervals, assisting\nsurgeons with gowning, gloving, and draping after skin preparation, and safely\npassing instruments, sponges, and sutures during procedures
- Maintain the\nsterile field and ensuring team adherence to sterile techniques, verifying and\npreparing medications and solutions for use within the sterile field, and\naccurately tracking their usage.
- Proper\nhandling and identification of specimens, providing safe and dignified patient\ncare, assisting with dressings and casts, and careful management of\ninstrumentation.
- After\nprocedures, responsibilities extend to preparing instruments for cleaning and\nsupporting operating room cleanup following Universal Precautions.
- Participate in\nongoing training and education to stay current with best practices and\ntechnological advancements.
- Collaborate\neffectively with surgeons, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure\noptimal patient outcomes.
This position floats to various units within the UCLA Health system\nbased on the patient census and the skills of the staff. Hospital locations\ninclude but are not limited to the following:
- Ronald Reagan\nUCLA Medical Center
- UCLA Santa\nMonica Medical Center
- UCLA West\nValley Medical Center

Salary Range: $47.43-$43.43 Hourly
QualificationsWe’re seeking a highly-skilled, self-motivated professional with:
- Minimum 2\nyears of Surgical Technician experience, required
- Ability to\nscrub in multiple service lines, required
- Graduate of\naccredited Surgical Technician program, required
- BLS from the\nAmerican Red Cross or American Heart Association, required
- Surgical\nTechnician certification from the NBSTSA, preferred
- Working\nknowledge of universal precautions, aseptic technique, operating room\nsanitation, and departmental policies and procedures.
- Familiarity\nwith surgical procedures, anatomy, terminology, and age-specific physiological\nand psychological patient needs.
- Knowledge of\nthe use, function, and operation of surgical instruments, equipment, and\nfurniture.
- Ability to\nspeak, read, and write proper English to convey information clearly, explain\nprocedures, and respond professionally via phone or in person.
- Ability to\nestablish and maintain cooperative working relationships and persuade others to\nfollow established practices.
- Willingness to\naccept shift changes and respond to emergency calls or disaster situations as\ndepartmental needs require.
- Skill in\nsetting priorities, recognizing emergencies, and taking appropriate action\nbased on experience or direction.
- Ability to\nwork independently, follow through on assignments, and perform repetitive tasks\nwith consistency and accuracy.
- Physical\nability to lift heavy objects, push or pull carts, handle surgical equipment\nsafely, and stand for extended periods.
