Principal Electrical Engineer Requirements & Qualifications:

  • 10–15 years of experience in industrial automation, electrical engineering, or related field
  • Strong experience owning electrical and controls architecture across machinery platforms
  • Advanced PLC programming experience (IEC 61131-3) and motion control systems
  • Proven ability to standardize engineering solutions across multiple machines
  • Deep understanding of system integration across electrical, mechanical, and safety systems
  • Experience making high-level technical decisions balancing cost, performance, and timelines
  • Proficiency with industrial networks (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, etc.)
  • Experience with electrical CAD tools and system documentation
  • Strong troubleshooting skills in complex industrial environments
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field

 

Must-Have Day-to-Day Impact:

  • Lead the full lifecycle design of automation systems from concept through deployment
  • Define and standardize electrical architecture across multiple machine platforms
  • Serve as the senior technical authority for complex engineering challenges
  • Drive cost reduction initiatives through design improvements and process optimization
  • Partner closely with manufacturing and production to implement scalable solutions
  • Lead troubleshooting efforts to resolve system inefficiencies and minimize downtime
  • Establish engineering best practices across PLC structure, motion control, and safety
  • Mentor and develop engineering team members while elevating technical standards


Principal Electrical Engineer Preferred Background & Skills:

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License
  • Multi-platform PLC experience (Yaskawa, Omron, Mitsubishi, etc.)
  • Experience with HMI development and interface design
  • Familiarity with structured programming standards (PLCopen)
  • Exposure to ERP systems and database integration
  • Experience with testing protocols such as Hi-Pot and ground bond
  • Background in highly customized or OEM machinery environments
