About the Opportunity
A well-established mechanical systems and controls contractor is seeking a Building Automation Engineer/Designer to support the design of complex BAS projects. This is a highly specialized role focused on controls design, system layouts, and bill of materials development—ideal for someone who enjoys the engineering and design side of building automation without field programming or commissioning responsibilities.

The Role
As a Building Automation Engineer/Designer, you will play a critical role in translating mechanical system requirements into detailed controls designs and documentation that drive successful project execution. You’ll work closely with project managers and field teams to ensure designs are accurate, complete, and aligned with project specifications—while maintaining a high level of independence in your day-to-day work.

Key Responsibilities
Controls Design & Engineering
- Develop detailed building automation system designs based on project specifications and mechanical plans
- Interpret HVAC drawings, sequences of operation, and project requirements to create complete controls solutions
- Produce accurate bills of materials (BOMs) to support procurement and installation
- Apply knowledge of control system architecture, wiring practices, and industry standards
Graphics & Interface Development
- Create intuitive system graphics and user interfaces for building automation platforms
- Develop visual representations of system operation, status, and performance
- Customize graphics to align with client needs and operational preferences
- Validate functionality and accuracy of graphical interfaces
Project Collaboration & Support
- Partner with project managers and internal teams to ensure timely and accurate design deliverables
- Provide technical support during installation and project execution phases
- Assist in resolving design-related challenges and responding to technical inquiries
- Participate in internal and client-facing discussions as needed
- Maintain clear and organized documentation throughout the project lifecycle

What You Bring
- 5+ years of experience in building automation, HVAC controls, or related field
- Strong experience with BAS design tools (e.g., Visio, Niagara N4, Distech GFX/Designer or similar)
- Understanding of BAS protocols such as BACnet, Modbus, or similar
- Ability to interpret mechanical drawings and sequences of operation
- Experience developing controls graphics and user interfaces preferred
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently in a hybrid or remote environment
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills

- Base salary range: $85,000 – $125,000 (based on experience and location)
