Receiving Team Member

Under the supervision of the Receiving Manager, the Receiving Team Member provides operational support in the safe distribution of food to those facing hunger in San Diego. This includes receiving scheduled loads, pickups, local drop-offs, as well as assisting the Receiving Manager in administering various receiving duties, record keeping and information management for all receiving food and non-food items. These tasks are to be completed following all personal safety and food safety regulations. The Receiving Team Member may be required to complete other tasks as assigned by the Receiving Manager in support of Feeding San Diego's mission.

Hours for this position are 7:00am-3:30pm Monday through Friday, and overtime as needed.

  • Unload trucks using a stand-up forklift/pallet jack, while utilizing strict adherence to receiving SOPs.
  • Weigh and/or conduct accurate case counts for all incoming products using a forklift/pallet jack, floor scale and calculator.
  • Accurately enter live data in Ceres software during the unload process.
  • Complete receiving process and paperwork to ensure food safety of product and accurate calculations of quantity received.
  • Safely storing away and scanning pallets into storage racking.
  • Scanning and uploading documents in Ceres software, associated websites, and/or via email.
  • Accurately perform receiving functions in Ceres software related to receiving based on SOPs.
  • Help to establish a continuously food safe warehouse by ensuring that all processes are maintained based on cleaning standards.
  • Perform general cleaning tasks assigned by cleaning schedules and SOPs.
  • Provide operational support to volunteer staff by stocking the volunteer area with products.
  • Perform daily inspection of equipment (forklifts, scissor lift, and pallet jacks) based on check sheet.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Receiving Manager.

The position will interact closely with all Distribution Center staff and provide information to donors, potential donors, individuals in need, volunteers, agency representatives, FSD staff and others from the community.

Minimum: Previous experience in inventory and/or warehouse environment, Current experience using a stand-up forklift/Pacer.

  • High School diploma or GED
  • 2 years of experience working in a warehouse environment including shipping/receiving, material handling, multi-tasking, and the preparation and maintenance of reports and records
  • Food handler's safety certificate
  • Success using an inventory system

General nonprofit organizational practices, food storage processes, record keeping and filing systems, basic mathematical functions.

  • Operate a Stand-up forklift, pallet jack, scissor lift, and dolly safely
  • Perform tasks in Microsoft Word and Excel at an intermediate level
  • Communicate orally and verbally in English
  • Organize work for others
  • Learn new technology
  • Show integrity to complete tasks according to standard operating procedures with little supervision

Stand-up Forklift, pallet jack, dolly, scissor lift, computer, adding machine (10key), multi-line phone, copier, printer.

Must have reliable transportation and possess and maintain a valid California driver's license, a satisfactory driving record, including proof of personal vehicle insurance coverage and insurability under the Agency's insurance carrier standards.

Must be able to obtain and keep a forklift and electric pallet jack certification. Training will be provided.
