Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Union Machinist Mechanic to support our high-volume food manufacturing and milling operations. This role is responsible for safely and efficiently maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, fabricating, and installing milling automation and production equipment.


Key Responsibilities

Maintenance & Equipment Reliability

  • Maintain, troubleshoot, dismantle, install, repair, and fabricate parts for milling automation and production equipment.
  • Perform routine safety checks prior to equipment start-up.
  • Inspect equipment for tolerance, stress, and defects using precision measuring tools.
  • Maintain and service turbines, pumps, hydraulic systems, conveyors, and gearboxes.
  • Operate overhead cranes and lifting devices; follow proper rigging procedures (crane certification required within 90 days).

Machining & Fabrication

  • Machine parts to specification using lathes, milling machines, drill presses, shapers, grinders, and key cutters.
  • Set up, adjust, and operate machine tools for precision machining operations.
  • Monitor feed and speed of machines during operations.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and engineering documentation to determine fabrication sequences.
  • Calculate dimensions and tolerances using micrometers, vernier calipers, and other precision instruments.

Qualifications

Required

  • Minimum 3 years of experience maintaining and repairing industrial equipment (hydraulics, turbines, pumps, gearboxes, conveyors). Or a recent machinist graduate with certifications.
  • Strong knowledge of machinist tools, metals, and material properties.
  • Proficiency with lathes, milling machines, drill presses, and other machine shop equipment.
  • Ability to read blueprints and perform layout work.
  • Ability to perform precise mathematical calculations and measurements.
  • Capable of passing company-designated aptitude and mechanical skills assessments.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older with a solid work and disciplinary record.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English for safety and operational purposes.

Preferred

  • Experience in food manufacturing, milling, or automated processing environments.
  • Experience using CMMS systems.
  • Previous union manufacturing experience.

Work Environment

  • Industrial food manufacturing facility.
  • Exposure to machinery, noise, dust, and varying temperatures.
  • Day shift with required overtime based on operational needs.
