Job Summary and Qualifications

At Henrico Doctors’ Hospital, the Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse provides exceptional direct patient care to all patients during the intrapartum period. This team is known in the community for respecting patient choice and preferences, and to that extent can provide the lowest intervention birth as-well-as the highest intervention birth for all low risk and high risk patients. The unit assists an average of 4400 births annually and provides 24/7 coverage with OB Hospitalist, CNM, Anesthesia services, Perinatologist, Neonatologist and Newborn Admission Nurse. In addition, the team works closely with a Perinatal Nurse Navigator, a Perinatal Social Worker and are supported by a 40 bed Level III NICU, 21 bed OB Antepartum unit and a 35 bed Mother Baby Unit. There are 2 types of wireless fetal monitoring, multiple options to choose from for pain management, deep soaking tubs and many other amenities/tools to support the laboring family on their journey.

Keeping our patients central to all decision-making, the L&D RN is responsible for:

• Maternal and fetal assessments and provide appropriate interventions, as necessary
• Work closely a multidisciplinary team
• Monitor, record and communicate patient conditions as appropriate
• Educate and support families during the birth journey
• Effective professional communication with all internal and external customers
• Demonstrate professionalism, accountability and commitment to nursing care in labor and delivery

• Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing (BSN preferred)
• Current Registered Nurse license in Virginia or a compact license
• Current BLS certification
• Current NRP certification
• Basic Fetal Monitoring
• At least one year of Labor and Delivery RN experience preferred, but not required
