About the Role
The Company is in search of a General Counsel to serve as its chief in-house legal advisor. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the legal aspects of contracting and claims strategy, overseeing litigation, and driving compliance and governance. This role requires a seasoned professional with a JD (or LL.B.), licensed in Illinois, and a minimum of 8 years' experience, with a focus on heavy contract negotiation and a preference for a construction/commercial background. The General Counsel will be expected to draft and negotiate a variety of complex agreements, advise on performance issues, and lead dispute strategy, including managing outside counsel. Key qualifications for the General Counsel position at the company include a proven track record in governance and employment counseling, with experience in public owner/municipal exposure being a plus. The role demands a professional with strong negotiation, communication, and business judgment skills, as well as high integrity and discretion. The ideal candidate will be a collaborative leader, capable of influencing at all levels and managing multiple legal matters and outside counsel effectively. Responsibilities also extend to building practical policies, procedures, and training, ensuring company-wide compliance, and partnering with HR on a range of employment issues.
