Job Details:
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Controller to join our team in the Construction industry. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing all aspects of accounting and financial operations, including job costing, billing, cash flow, aging reports, P&L, inventory accounting, and year-end close. This role also requires a strong understanding of the HVAC and plumbing industry, HVAC MEP, labor trends, and the ability to develop and train an effective accounting team. The Controller will report directly to the CFO and play a critical role in strategic decision making and operations as we continue to enhance our quality and increase our capacity.
Responsibilities:
1. Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems, ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.
2. Maintain internal control safeguards for the receipt of revenue, costs, and both team and organizational budgets and actual expenditures.
3. Coordinate all audit activity and manage the production of annual financial statements and accompanying notes.
4. Implement consistent accounting policies, practices, and procedures across all programs, upholding federal, state, and local legal standards by remaining knowledgeable about existing, new, and future legislation.
5. Develop and manage financial controls in accordance with the company’s procedures.
6. Communicate financial metrics to senior management and provide leadership and support to accounts receivable and accounts payable departments.
7. Manage the preparation of payroll for personnel.
8. Keep up-to-date with technological advances in the field, implementing new systems and software as necessary.
9. Conduct regular meetings with the accounting team, ensuring they are informed and well-trained.
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
2. CPA or MBA preferred.
3. Minimum of 5 years of experience in a senior-level finance or accounting position.
4. Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles, including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
5. Knowledge of automated financial and accounting reporting systems, specifically Sage Intacct.
6. Knowledge of federal and state financial regulations.
7. Strong understanding of the HVAC and plumbing industry, HVAC MEP, and labor trends.
8. Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements, and projections.
9. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
10. Demonstrated leadership ability, team management, and interpersonal skills.
11. Experience in a senior financial-management role, partnering with executive staff, resulting in the development and implementation of creative financial management strategies.
12. Excellent problem-solving skills, with a proven ability to think strategically and execute diligently.
13. Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
