Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Construction Accountant to support the financial operations of a well-established excavating and civil construction company. This role is ideal for an accounting professional with hands-on experience in job costing, WIP reporting, cost-to-complete analysis, and municipal billing who understands the financial flow of heavy civil and site work projects.


Construction Accountant Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and maintain monthly Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules
  • Perform cost-to-complete analysis and track project financial performance
  • Monitor job costs, budgets, and forecasts for active projects
  • Support municipal and public sector billing, including:
    • Requisitions / pay applications
    • Progress billing
    • Tracking approvals and collections
  • Ensure accurate revenue recognition in accordance with job progress
  • Work closely with project managers to reconcile costs, quantities, and percent complete
  • Maintain job cost data and project records within Procore
  • Assist with month-end close related to job costing and project accounting
  • Provide financial insight related to:
    • Civil site work
    • Vertical construction
    • Pump stations and infrastructure projects
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls and accounting best practices

Construction Accountant Qualifications:

  • 4–6 years of construction accounting experience, preferably within excavating or civil construction
  • Strong working knowledge of:
    • Job costing
    • Cost-to-complete reporting
    • WIP schedules
  • Experience with municipal / public sector billing and requisitions
  • Proficiency with Procore (required)
  • Solid understanding of civil construction environments, including:
    • Civil site work
    • Vertical construction
    • Pump stations
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Comfortable working in a deadline-driven environment

Construction Accountant Compensation & Benefits:
