Job Opportunity: Entry Level Driver Training Role
This position offers a comprehensive training program for individuals looking to enter the driving profession. The role involves learning to drive a tractor trailer or straight truck for local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight routes to deliver and unload various food and food-related products to customers. All routes are expected to be completed safely in accordance with company policies and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.
The Driver Trainee will communicate and interact with customers, vendors, and co-workers professionally, ensuring all services and duties are executed in accordance with preferred work methods and customer service practices. They will function as a team member within the department and organization, as required, and perform any duty assigned to best serve the company.
Key responsibilities include:
- Attending and successfully completing PFG Entry Level Driver Trainee or Dock to Driver Training Program as required.
- Riding-with and assisting driver trainer in executing deliveries as required. Following all instructions and directions provided by driver trainer.
- Performing all required safety checks (i.e. pre/post trip) including inspections of tractor/truck and trailer according to DOT regulations; inspecting tractor/truck and trailer to insure they meet company safety standards and take appropriate action as needed. Reporting all safety issues and/or repairs required.
- Following all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies. Immediately reporting any and all safety hazards.
- Inspecting trailer for properly loaded and secured freight. Performing count check of items and checking customer invoices of products that have been loaded. Checking and completing in an accurate and legible fashion all required paperwork associated with freight. Moving tractor to the loading dock and attaching preloaded trailer as needed.
- Driving to and delivering customer orders according to predetermined route delivery schedule.
- Unloading products from the trailer, transporting items into designated customer storage areas. Performing damage control checks on items, scanning and contacting supervisor about removing orders according to company policy. Verifying delivery of items with customer and obtaining proper signatures. Collecting money (cash or checks) where required. Loading customer returns on to trailer and securing trailer doors.
- Ensuring that tractor, trailer, and freight are appropriately locked and/or secured at all times.
- Unloading damaged goods and customer returns and bringing to the driver check-in and completing necessary paperwork. Unloading all equipment, materials, and removing trash from trailers as required.
- Completing daily record of hours of service and entering in log in accordance with Federal DOT, state, and company requirements.
- Performing general housekeeping duties in tractor, loading dock area, and keeping trailers clear and clean as required. At the end of the shift, securing all equipment and completing all necessary paperwork.
- Performing other related duties as assigned.
