Cardiac Sonographer I

Position Summary
The Cardiac Sonographer I performs diagnostic echocardiographic examinations, including transthoracic and transesophageal studies, while working closely with cardiologists to ensure accurate, high-quality imaging and patient-centered care.

Education Requirements

  • Required: High School Diploma or GED

  • Preferred: Associate Degree or higher

  • Preferred: Graduate of a CAAHEP-accredited Cardiovascular Program

Experience Requirements

  • Preferred: Minimum 1 year of cardiac sonography experience

  • New graduates are encouraged to apply

Licensure & Certification

  • Required: Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS or RCS)

    • New graduates will have up to 6 months to obtain registry

  • Required: BLS certification (per Life Support Training Policy)

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform diagnostic cardiac ultrasound exams, including TTE and TEE

  • Acquire and evaluate echocardiographic images and hemodynamic data

  • Use independent judgment to differentiate normal vs. pathological findings

  • Ensure patient safety, comfort, and clear communication throughout exams

  • Maintain ultrasound equipment and report equipment issues as needed

  • Collaborate with cardiologists and care teams to optimize image quality

  • Document studies and generate preliminary echocardiography reports

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in echocardiography equipment and imaging techniques

  • Strong knowledge of cardiac anatomy, pathology, and ultrasound principles

  • Ability to work independently and manage changing workloads

  • Effective communication skills and sensitivity to patient needs
