Buyer Position
The Buyer is responsible for managing material procurement to support production demand, ensuring optimal inventory levels, and maintaining strong vendor relationships. This role plays a key part in aligning purchasing strategy with production schedules, minimizing shortages, and driving cost efficiency across all purchased materials.
Material Planning & Procurement
- Review Material Planner Workbench (Syteline) to determine purchasing needs
- Create and manage Purchase Orders based on:
- Demand
- Lead times
- Inventory levels
- Ensure materials are ordered in alignment with production schedules and CO timelines
Vendor Management
- Communicate with vendors regarding:
- Pricing
- Lead times
- Order status
- Develop and maintain strong supplier relationships
- Evaluate vendor performance (on-time delivery, quality, responsiveness)
Inventory & Demand Alignment
- Balance inventory levels to avoid:
- Stockouts
- Excess inventory
- Collaborate with Inventory team on:
- Cycle count discrepancies
- Usage trends
- Item corrections
BOM & Data Integrity
- Work with Inventory and Production teams to:
- Identify and correct BOM issues
- Ensure purchased components match production requirements
- Support continuous improvement of system accuracy
Cost Management
- Analyze pricing trends and identify cost-saving opportunities
- Negotiate pricing and terms when applicable
- Maintain accurate standard and current costs in the system
Cross-Functional Coordination
- Partner with:
- Production (job readiness, shortages)
- Receiving (incoming materials)
- Inventory (stock accuracy)
- Ensure materials are available to meet customer order deadlines
Key Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in purchasing, supply chain, or manufacturing environment
- Strong ERP experience (Infor Syteline preferred)
- Ability to interpret planning data and demand signals
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Effective vendor communication and negotiation skills

- On-time material availability for production
- Reduction in shortages and expediting
- Inventory turns and level optimization
- Cost savings and pricing accuracy
- Vendor performance improvement
