A specialized nursing opportunity is available for an experienced Registered Nurse to provide dedicated 1:1 care within an elementary school setting in Ithaca, NY. This contract position offers a Monday through Friday schedule, with daily hours from 7:30 AM to 2:30/3:00 PM. Nurses will be compensated for a full day even if all duties are completed earlier, and a duty-free lunch break is provided.

This role involves supporting a first-grade student with unique medical needs, including tracheostomy monitoring, suctioning, and assistance with activities of daily living such as feeding. The student is non-verbal and receives academic and elective support; the nurse will supervise during elective classes outside the special education environment. The caseload includes direct 1:1 care tailored to this students requirements, with no aggressive behaviors expected.

Key Qualifications:

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) licensure
  • Experience in pediatric nursing and school-based health care
  • Skilled in tracheostomy care, suctioning, and feeding assistance
  • Ability to provide academic support and student supervision
  • Strong observational and communication skills
  • Bilingual abilities are a plus but not required
  • Flexibility to begin with a start date TBD through May 20, 2026

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and manage tracheostomy care and suctioning procedures
  • Assist with feeding and other ADLs
  • Provide safe and effective 1:1 nursing care throughout the school day
  • Supervise the student during elective classes outside the special education classroom
  • Collaborate with school staff and families to ensure comprehensive care
